Inspired by Tokyo’s world-renowned toilet designs, this ideas competition hosted by Perkins&Will invites leading architects & designers to reimagine Chicago’s downtown facilities as safe, dignified, and architecturally inspiring.
In high-profile locations along the Lakefront Trail and at key points in the urban core, these restrooms will set a new standard for public amenities — embodying equity, hospitality, and care for everyone who lives in or visits the city. By elevating an everyday need into an experience of beauty and welcome, The Pause affirms that great cities care for people in every detail.
